Always Look Out For The Little Guy
"There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up" - J.Holmes
There are people in this world around you who don't have the confidence, positive experiences, privileged upbringings or friends that they'd hope for - the advantages that many of us are lucky enough to have. There are also those who don't have the confidence to speak for themselves in times of adversity; the people who hide behind the curtain, scared of what life may throw toward them and live with the idea that they have no value or place to those around them.
Lend your voice to someone else. Give your time to those who need your help. Be there to offer a hand to those struggling around you and make someone else's day better by looking out for them; by making them feel noticed and valued, instead of walking past them and letting them feel invisible. Make the world a better, brighter place for those who struggle to make it a more positive place for themselves.
This doesn't mean doing absolutely everything for someone; it's about encouraging them. Putting your belief in them means that they may find within them an ability to believe in themselves. Giving people your time, interest and attention is the most valuable currency we can share; money can only do so much, but human connection and value amongst others can move mountains, build courage and provide new hope.
The first lesson we were all taught in pre-school is the most important lesson we'll ever be taught in life; treat others as you would like to be treated. Furthermore, the most selfish thing we can do is to be selfless, because it makes us feel so good. It's vital that we are selfish in life, to prioritise our own well-being and do all the things that make us happy, but it's so important to be selfless and be there for others too.
Put yourself in another's shoes and imagine how you would feel if someone treated you in the way you treat others. How would you feel? Because the way that experiences, people, actions and words makes us feel is the most powerful thing we have: we always remember how something made us feel. Be that power for someone else. Always look out for the little guy.
